Peter Weiss is a renowned artist, illustrator and inventor – his work is highly recognizable – as the creator of the Red Bull cartoons/animations that propelled the company to reach mass market fame.
“I was born in 1948. At 13, my Dad, Carl Weiss, taught me to do “ paste up and mechanicals “ and to assist in his freelance commercial art studio. My father specialized in book design and “ men’s pulp magazine” cover. By the age of 15, I was doing finished “comprehensives “ for men’s magazines such as Sexology , Argosy , and True Confessions. I was very popular in junior high school . At that time school boys only had access to “National Geographic” and the lingerie section of the “Sears Roebuck“ catalog . Then there was my collections of “ hot swipes “ or reference materials … I sold my references and art for lunch money and was the undisputed class artist . At 18 I went to work for a prestigious art restoration and conservation company called Braun and Zakow . My specialty was “in painting “. By that time I could duplicate any hand or style of painting and specialized in the restoration of 20th century artists for world renown galleries and museums . By the age of 20, I became involved in textile engineering and manufacturing from 1970 -1997 as product development head and top designer . I became heavily involved in all phases of printmaking for the apparel trade. As an owner manager of textile mills, Duplan Corporation / Andrex industries, my print designs and fabric developments were sold to moderate priced name brands and couture and high fashion houses internationally.
In 2000 -2011 I joined “the creatives” team at Kastner & Partners advertising agency and was tasked with creating Red Bull Cartoons , trophies for Moto GP, the RB International Air Race , and designed and built muscle powered flying machine for the Red Bull Flu Tag events . My displays for Red Bull have been seen at the Brooklyn Museum and Carnegie Hall.”
